An adaptation of Jon Ronson’s controversial novel is in the works.

Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment have chosen Scarlett Johansson as ‘one out of a hundred’ to be cast in the film version of Jon Ronson’s 2011 novel The Psychopath Test: A Journey Through the Madness Industry. Jay Roach, from the Austin Powers comic trilogy, is on board to direct.

In the novel, Ronson, whose writing credits include the best-selling book The Men Who Stare at Goats (2004) and the screenplay for Frank (2014), explores a tapestry of hoaxes crafted by scientific minds, criminally insane characters and “normal” people. On his journey, he learns to spot the fewer obvious people who cross his path that all harbour a myriad of eccentricities and psychopathic tendencies.

The film will be produced by Brian Grazer and Roach’s Everyman Pictures. Former Vice President Al Gore’s daughter Kristin Gore, who is also collaborating with Roach on the comedy series Women in Space for HBO, is penning the script for this brand new psychological thriller.
